The #10-ranked Grand Valley State Football team returned to action following three weeks off in between games as they hosted the Davenport Panthers in the annual Crosstown Showdown inside Lubbers Stadium.
After a tight knit battle in the first half that saw the Lakers take a 21-14 advantage into the halftime locker room, GVSU imposed their will defensively in the second half and shut out the Panthers outscoring the visitors 16-0 in the final 30 minutes of play en route to a 37-14 victory to improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play.
With the setback, Davenport falls to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in GLIAC play.
