If the Astros manage to come back from their two-game deficit to win the World Series, they’ll celebrate without Brandon Taubman. The team’s assistant general manager was fired Thursday for making “inappropriate comments” in the Astros clubhouse.
The incident, which was exposed by Sports Illustrated, occurred after the team won the American League Championship Series. As the players celebrated the victory, Taubman reportedly praised Roberto Osuna, shouting, “Thank God we got Osuna! I’m so f***ing glad we got Osuna!” The comments about the closing pitcher, who’s been accused of assaulting the mother of his child, appeared to be directed at three female reporters in the locker room, the magazine reported. One of the women was reportedly wearing a domestic violence awareness bracelet.
In a statement announcing Taubman’s termination, Astros officials said, “Our initial investigation led us to believe that Brandon Taubman’s inappropriate comments were not directed toward any reporter. We were wrong.”
Considering Osuna was only suspended for assaulting his girlfriend, was firing Taubman appropriate? Is this controversy hurting the team’s morale?
