Lions survive New Orleans second half rally, capture season-opening overtime victory at home

As we all know, no lead is safe in the National Football League.

Not even a 21-0 third quarter lead as the Detroit Lions had during its Home and Season Opener against the New Orleans Saints.

Sunday’s game saw the Lions notch those first 21 points only to have the Saints mount a furious second half rally to eventually even the game at 24-24 and have an opportunity to win the game in regulation, but a 62-yard field goal would fall short to the right to send the game into overtime.

The Lions got the ball first in overtime and marched right down the field for a touchdown, but New Orleans would have another response and get an overtime touchdown of their own, however, they wanted to go for the win….

Like we wrote to open things up, a win is a win, no matter how ugly it can get throughout the course of the game.

The Lions get a quick turnaround for their Week Two matchup as they hit the road to Western New York to take on Josh Allen and the 1-0 Buffalo Bills at the new Highmark Stadium on Thursday night at 8:15 pm.
