Tigers land four All-Stars, Justin Verlander lands “Legends Pick” and announces retirement following the season

The Detroit Tigers might still be below the .500 mark for the 2026 season, mostly due to the dreadful month of May, but recently, they’ve been one of the hottest teams in baseball and continue to surge up the American League Wild Card and Central standings as the All-Star Break approaches.

Speaking of the All-Star Break, the Tigers did land a total of four All-Stars this season with rookie Kevin McGonigle, Riley Greene, and Dillon Dingler earning reserve spots on the American League All-Star Team and future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander getting named to the A.L. Team as a “Legends Pick.”

Shortly after the MLB announcement of being added to the American League All-Star Team as a “Legends Pick,” Justin Verlander made his own announcement of calling the 2026 season his last as a player as the 43-year-old has been battling through multiple injuries this season and has only appeared in one game so far in during his second stint as a Tiger.
