After serving as an assistant coach for the past two seasons under Dusty May in Ann Arbor, Mike Boynton Jr. has agreed on a two-year contract to become the new head basketball coach at Michigan after briefly serving as the interim head coach following May’s NBA departure to the Dallas Mavericks.

The 44-year-old Boynton Jr. came to the Wolverines after seven seasons as the head coach at Oklahoma State, where he compiled a 119-109 overall record that included four winning seasons and an NCAA Tournament berth during the 2020-21 season.
Led by current Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham, the Cowboys finished the 2020-21 season with a 21-9 record and ranked #11 in the country while making it to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament.
