For the first time since the decade-long postseason drought began, we can officially say that the Detroit Red Wings were buyers at the NHL Trade Deadline in landing a pair of veterans to help bolster the forward and blue line units as forward David Perron returns to the Red Wings from Ottawa and defenseman Justin Faulk arrives to Detroit from St. Louis.
The only loss from the active roster was Elmer Soderblom being dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a draft pick.
