For the first time since the National Championship-winning 2003 season, the Grand Valley State Football team dropped a “Battle of the Valleys” contest at home to the rival Saginaw Valley State Cardinals as the visitors scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter and stopped a potential GVSU game-winning two-point conversion with a minute to go to hold on to a 20-19 victory inside Lubbers Stadium.
With the loss, the Lakers fall to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC, while the Cardinals improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in GLIAC play with following the big road win.
