They’re in.
Barely.
For the second straight season, the Detroit Tigers have clawed their way into the Major League Baseball playoffs, even if they took the opposite trajectory to get into the postseason compared to last season’s run.
And yes, they did blow a 15 1/2-game lead in the American League Central and allowed the Cleveland Guardians to race past them in the final days of the regular season for the division crown and homefield advantage in the Wild Card Round.
However, as everyone within the Tigers organization is saying, everyone is now 0-0, so we’ll see if they can pull off the same Wild Card Round magic that they did last season on the road in Houston.
The Tigers ended the 2025 regular season with an 87-75 record, one game back of the division-winning Guardians, following a 2-4 week to end the regular season in which they dropped two of three to both Cleveland and the Boston Red Sox on the road.
The lone highlight we’ll share from the week that was is the final out on Saturday in Boston that locked up a postseason berth for the Tigers:

A team that stays together is very dangerous.

Next up, the Wild Card Round.
For the second straight season, the Tigers will be the #6 seed and will get another shot at the Cleveland Guardians, who ended up as the #3 seed.
The best-of-three series will take place at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, and the winner of the series moves on to the ALDS that begins this weekend in Seattle against the Mariners, who ended up locking down the #2 seed in the American League.
Below is the A.L. Wild Card schedule for the Tigers-Guardians series:
- GAME #1 – Tuesday, September 30th – 1:08 pm
- GAME #2 – Wednesday, October 1st – 1:08 pm
- GAME #3 – Thursday, October 2nd – 1:08 pm
