Comerica Park was (very) friendly to the Detroit Tigers this past week that saw the home team win two more series and post a 5-1 overall mark while also extending their American League Central lead with just over a month left in the regular season.
To begin the week, Detroit swept the Houston Astros out of town in three games followed by taking two of three over the weekend against the Kansas City Royals.
The Tigers (78 wins) currently sit in the top spot in the battle for the #1 overall seed in the American League just a few wins ahead of those Toronto Blue Jays (76 wins).
Here’s how the A.L. Central looks as we head into the final full week of August:
American League Central Standings
- Detroit Tigers – 78-54
- Kansas City Royals – 67-64 (10.5 GB)
- Cleveland Guardians – 64-65 (12.5 GB)
- Minnesota Twins – 59-71 (18 GB)
- Chicago White Sox – 47-83 (29 GB)
