The Detroit Tigers seemed to have figured some things out this past week after going through their worst stretch of the 2025 season as they were able to compile a winning record of 4-2 for the week.
The week got started off on the right note at home with a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks followed by scratching out one win over the weekend during a three-game road series against one of the best teams in the National League in the Philadelphia Phillies.
Now, the Tigers find themselves in a battle for the best record in the American League as they currently sit in a tie with the Toronto Blue Jays for the top spot with exact 65-48 records.
Also, we can’t forget that Detroit is still in the race for the best record in all of Major League Baseball only two games back of the Milwaukee Brewers (67 wins) for the league’s best overall mark.
As for the American League Central, the Tigers are still keeping their distance as we get into the thick of August:
AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL STANDINGS
DETROIT TIGERS – 65-48
Cleveland Guardians – 56-55 (8 GB)
Kansas City Royals – 56-56 (8.5 GB)
Minnesota Twins – 52-59 (12 GB)
Chicago White Sox – 42-70 (22.5 GB)
We’ll begin on the pitching side for individual standouts from the week that was as Troy Melton put an exclamation point on his first Major League win:
Gleyber Torres was phenomenal all week offensively:
The offense is just different when Kerry Carpenter is in the lineup:
Newcomer Chris Paddock was very good in his Tigers debut:
Colt Keith has been streaking offensively lately:
Lastly, Javy Baez’s resurgent season continues at the plate:
The Tigers, winners of five of their last seven contests, begin a stretch of 13 straight games against teams below .500, and there’s no better way to kick it off than with a nice homestand this week:
- August 4-6th vs. Minnesota Twins (Comerica Park)
- August 8-10th vs. Los Angeles Angels (Comerica Park)
