The start to the NHL free agency period has been a tame one, to say the least, for Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings as minor additions were made to provide either veteran depth on the current roster or additional depth for its AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In terms of familiar faces, the Red Wings did re-sign four players that were on last year’s team in Albert Johansson, Jonatan Berggren, Elmer Soderblom, and, most notably, Patrick Kane.
At this point in time, it’s up to whether or not Steve Yzerman will get creative in the trade market to try and make a big offseason splash.
