The WNBA is returning to the Motor City beginning with the 2029 season as the league will be expanding to 18 teams by that time with two other cities joining Detroit as expansion franchises over the coming years.
The last time Detroit had a WNBA franchise was the Detroit Shock from 1998-2009 capturing three WNBA Championships in 2003, 2006, and 2008.
