It was a week of ups and downs for the Detroit Tigers following a .500 mark of 3-3 this past week after taking two of three on the road against the Baltimore Orioles and dropping two of three at home against the Cincinnati Reds.
Even after having an “average” week, the Tigers (46 wins), believe it or not, still have a narrow edge over the New York Mets (45 wins) and Chicago Cubs (44 wins), along with many others, for the best record in all of Major League Baseball.
Not only that, it seems that none of the other four teams in the American League Central want to challenge the Tigers for the top spot in the division as the current standings indicate:
AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL STANDINGS
DETROIT TIGERS – 46-27
Minnesota Twins – 36-35 (9 GB)
Cleveland Guardians – 35-35 (7.5 GB)
Kansas City Royals – 34-32 (8.5 GB)
Chicago White Sox – 23-49 (22.5 GB)
As for standouts from the week that was, let’s start with former Central Michigan Chippewa Zach McKinstry flexing his triple muscles to get the week going right:
Parker Meadows finally got on the board with his first long ball of the season:
Tarik Skubal is still Tarik Skubal:
Gleyber Torres has been a nice addition to this year’s team:
Riley Greene continues to mash the baseball:
After an off day on Monday, the Tigers resume their homestand the following day against an N.L. Central foe followed by heading south this weekend to take on a team from the A.L. East:
- June 17-19th vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Comerica Park)
- June 20th-22nd at Tampa Bay Rays (George M. Steinbrenner Field)
