Tigers Weekly Report: Overcoming Adversity

During the grind of a long and grueling 162-game regular season, it’s a tough ask for your favorite baseball team to win every series they participate in, and this past week, the Detroit Tigers experienced something they haven’t gone through since the very first series of the season out in Los Angeles….deal with a three-game losing streak.

After beginning the previous week with another road series victory in taking two of three from the St. Louis Cardinals, the Tigers hit a minor rough patch in dropping three of four from the Cleveland Guardians at home that resulted in a 3-4 week and saw the race for the top spot in the American League Central tighten up just a little bit.

As we quickly wrap up the month of May, here’s how the A.L. Central looks through the first two months of the regular season:

AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL STANDINGS
DETROIT TIGERS – 34-20
Cleveland Guardians – 29-23 (4 GB)
Minnesota Twins – 29-23 (4 GB)
Kansas City Royals – 29-25 (5 GB)
Chicago White Sox – 17-36 (16.5 GB)

As for standouts from the week that was, the first player that immediately comes to mind is, no surprise, Tarik Skubal.

Give that man a blank check:

The offense also decided to help Skubal out a little bit on Sunday:

Riley Greene has turned things around nicely of late:

“Carp” and “Tork” continue to provide power surges for the offense:

Lastly, this was a nice little newsworthy note to go into the weekend on:

This week, the Tigers wrap up another homestand against one of the top teams in the National League and end the week on the road against a familiar A.L. Central opponent:

  • May 26-28th vs. San Francisco Giants (Comerica Park)
  • May 30th-June 1st at Kansas City Royals (Kauffman Stadium)
