When the Detroit Tigers signed Kenta Maeda to a two-year, $24 million contract, they were hoping for him to provide a strong veteran presence in their starting rotation while helping out the younger pitchers on the staff.
Ultimately, Maeda didn’t make it to the end of his deal as the 37-year-old was designated for assignment by the Tigers after posting a 3-7 record to go with a 6.21 ERA in 36 games (17 starts) with Detroit dating back to the 2024 season.
In other Tigers news, reliever Andrew Chafin has opted out of his Tigers minor league deal to sign a major league contract with the Texas Rangers after pitching with the Toledo Mud Hens for a month.
Even though he’s no longer with the organization, we hope he never changes.
