Grand Rapids Griffins back in the playoffs for the first time since 2019, earn first-round home ice advantage against Rockford

It’s been a minute, but the Grand Rapids Griffins are back in the American Hockey League playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season after finishing second in the Central Division with a 37-23-8-4 overall record, good for 86 points.

Sunday’s home overtime victory over the Milwaukee Admirals in the regular season finale gave the Griffins home ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs by a single point over the Rockford IceHogs.

The Griffins and IceHogs begin their best-of-five first-round series on Saturday night in Rockford as the Griffins will host Games 2, 3, and 5 of the series.

Grand Rapids is seeking their first playoff series win since winning the Calder Cup during the 2016-17 season.
