Michigan State assistant Mark Montgomery accepts head coaching job at Detroit Mercy

Michigan State assistant coach Mark Montgomery has agreed to become the new head basketball coach at Detroit Mercy.

Montgomery spent two different stints at his alma mater as an assistant from 2001-11 and 2021-24.

The 54-year-old Montgomery previously coached the better part of ten seasons at Northern Illinois from 2011-21 compiling a 124-170 record (63-98 MAC).

The Titans finished last season with a 1-31 overall record (1-19 Horizon League), tied for the fewest wins in all of Division I college basketball with the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (1-30 overall).
