Tigers swing trade with the Cubs to acquire infielder Zach McKinstry

The Detroit Tigers have made a deal prior to the start of the 2023 season in trading for infielder Zach McKinstry from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for pitcher Carlos Guzman.

McKinstry, the soon-to-be 28-year-old native of Toledo, Ohio, is entering his fourth Major League season and has appeared in 364 games combined between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs hitting .208 with 12 home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Guzman, the soon-to-be 22-year-old native of Venezuela, has floated around the Tigers’ farm system and spent the majority of last season with the High-A West Michigan Whitecaps compiling a 9-6 record in 106 innings pitched to go with a 4.16 ERA, 89 strikeouts, and 34 walks.
