Tigers to hire San Francisco’s Scott Harris as new president of baseball operations

Chris Ilitch and the Detroit Tigers have found Al Avila’s replacement, and his name is Scott Harris.

Harris, the Redwood City, California native, has been with the San Francisco Giants organization since the 2020 season as the team’s general manager. Prior to joining the Giants, Harris was part of the Chicago Cubs organization from 2012-19 and was the Cubs’ director of baseball operations until January 2018 when he was promoted to assistant general manager.

Harris holds one World Series ring as a member of the Cubs organization in 2016, and last season in San Francisco, he helped assemble a roster that won 107 games in the regular season before losing in the NLDS to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the decisive fifth game.
