Red Wings, Jake Walman Avoid Arbitration, Agree To One-Year Deal

The Detroit Red Wings and Defenseman Jake Walman have agreed on a one-year, one-way contract extension and will avoid an arbitration hearing.

Initially, Walman was asking for around $1.7 million on a one-way deal, while the Red Wings offered a two-way deal at $775,000/$225,000.

Walman, the 26-year-old, appeared in 19 games for the Red Wings this past season totaling four assists after coming over from the St. Louis Blues via the Nick Leddy trade. In total, the Toronto native compiled three goals and seven assists in 51 games combined between St. Louis and Detroit.

So, what’s next for Steve Yzerman and company in the offseason? Well, there’s only one contract left to figure out….Filip Zadina.
