Michigan Terminates Hockey Head Coach Mel Pearson’s Employment

It’s official, Mel Pearson is no longer the head coach of the University of Michigan hockey program.

Pearson’s contract had expired in April but remained on staff even after allegations surfaced of telling players to provide false information on COVID contact-tracing forms, of misleading recruits about how much scholarship money they would receive, and of allegedly calling one player a “Jew.”

In five seasons at Michigan, Pearson compiled a 99-65-16 record to go with two NCAA Frozen Four appearances and one Big Ten Tournament championship.
