Orchard Lake St. Mary’s phenom Brock Porter was supposed to be a first-round pick in this year’s Major League Baseball Draft as many national publications had him as a Top Ten prospect in the entire draft class.
This past season with the Eaglets, Porter was 9-0 on the mound with a sparkling 0.26 ERA and 115 strikeouts as OLSM captured their third straight State Championship with an unblemished 44-0 record while also being named a National Champion for the second consecutive season.
However, whether it was uncertainty about him going to Clemson for his freshman season or other factors involved, Porter ended up sliding all the way down to the fourth-round at 109th overall to the Texas Rangers.
Ultimately, the Rangers would strike a record-breaking deal with the Gatorade National Player of the Year, and we say it’s a record based on what the normal slot value is for being picked where he was.
By signing this deal, Porter will not be playing college baseball for former Michigan Head Coach Erik Bakich at Clemson.
