Shea Patterson, Former #1 Overall Pick In USFL Draft, Released By Michigan Panthers

Former University of Michigan Quarterback Shea Patterson, the #1 overall pick in the USFL Draft back in late February, has been released by the team that drafted him in the Michigan Panthers.

The Panthers have struggled during the USFL’s first season of its reboot going 1-5 and tied for the worst record in the league with the Pittsburgh Maulers and Houston Gamblers.

In six games, Patterson struggled throwing the football completing 59.4% of his passes (95-for-160) for 944 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions and also ran the ball for 170 yards and a pair of scores on 33 carries.

However, not all is lost for Patterson as he was immediately claimed by the 4-2 New Orleans Breakers just hours after being released by the Panthers.

Patterson will likely serve as the backup quarterback for New Orleans behind starter Kyle Sloter, who currently leads the league with 1,318 passing yards.
