Has Michigan’s Caleb Houstan Received A First-Round “Promise” From An NBA Team?

The National Football League has their annual “silly season” leading up to the NFL Draft, while the National Basketball Association apparently has its annual “promise season” leading up to the NBA Draft.

Recently, rumblings have come out surrounding Michigan’s Caleb Houstan and his surprising decision to not participate in the NBA Draft Combine. A few months ago, Houstan was not even considered to even be a draft pick. Now, NBA insiders are saying that the reason why the native of Canada turned down the combine invite was because he may have received a “promise” of being picked in the first-round meaning a guaranteed rookie contract.

ESPN’s recent mock draft has Houstan going to the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 30th overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Houstan still has not officially hired an agent and has until June 1st to either stay in the draft or return to Ann Arbor for his sophomore season.
