After four-plus years as CEO of the Miami Marlins, Kalamazoo, Michigan native Derek Jeter has decided to step down. Jeter will also relinquish his ownership stake in the team.

In August 2017, Jeter and Bruce Sherman finalized a deal to purchase the Miami Marlins. The sale was completed in September 2017 following unanimous approval of the other 29 MLB team owners. Jeter owned a 4% stake in the Marlins franchise and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the team.
