“We’re Going In A Different Direction”: Tom Prince Out As Manager Of Tigers’ Triple-A Affiliate

After guiding the Toledo Mud Hens to a 74-56 record in 2021 that included a first place finish in the Midwest Division, Tom Prince was told that he wouldn’t be returning to the Detroit Tigers organization in 2022.

When asked if he received any explanation for his sudden departure from the organization, Prince said, “I asked, but I didn’t get one.”

The Mud Hens in 2021 had only their third winning record since 2012, and their best finish since 2007, as a stream of players who either shared time in Detroit, or moved to the threshold of Comerica Park, revived a team and its Fifth Third Field venue.

Long story short, Prince was told in just a few short words, “We’re going in a different direction.”
