Red Wings Sign Michael Rasmussen To Three-Year Extension; Trade For Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic

Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman has wasted no time in making moves following the completion of Seattle’s Expansion Draft last night as, now with the roster freeze officially over, the team has agreed with on a three-year contract extension with Forward Michael Rasmussen and have traded for Carolina Hurricanes Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic has totaled 30 points (11-19-30) and 55 penalty minutes in 102 NHL games in exchange for a 2021 third round pick (94th overall) and the rights to Goaltender Jonathan Bernier. In addition, Nedeljkovic has agreed to a two-year contract with the Red Wings at $3 million per season.

After being the 9th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Rasmussen has totaled 30 points (11-19-30) and 55 penalty minutes in 102 NHL games. The 22-year-old is signed through the 2023-24 season.

The 25-year-old Nedeljkovic was a second round pick (37th overall) by the Hurricanes in 2014 and posted a crisp 1.90 goals-against average to go with a .932 and three shutouts in 23 regular season games this past season. In the team’s recent playoff run, Nedeljkovic played in nine playoff contests registering a 2.17 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage, and one shutout.
