Players for the Detroit Lions won’t be the only people returning to Ford Field when the 2021 NFL season gets underway. After a year of pandemic-fueled capacity restrictions, the seats of the stadium will once again be filled with fans — and not cardboard cutouts.

The change, announced Tuesday by the Lions, comes after Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer lifted all capacity restrictions on the state’s venues. Since June, the stadium was permitted to welcome only 50 percent of its capacity. Prior to that, the limit was set at 20 percent. Two Lions games were played in a completely empty stadium last year.
Of the NFL’s 32 teams, 30 have been cleared to host full-capacity crowds, the NFL Network reports. The only holdouts are the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos, according to the agency.
