Baseball pays tribute to Tigers great Al Kaline

Al Kaline was “a kind and generous man who meant so much to so many,” according to former Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander.

Verlander is among dozens of baseball figures paying tribute to the Tigers legend, who died Monday at the age of 85. New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza remembers Kaline as “an iconic player who played through pain with passion and drive,” while current Tiger Matthew Boyd says he was “one of the kindest, most welcoming people I’ve ever met.”

The Tigers’ Niko Goodrum says “Mr. Tiger” was “a man that always made you feel good about yourself and gave you hope.” And James McCann, who says “I feel blessed to have known him,” remembers Kaline as most people will: “The greatest Detroit Tiger of all time.”

Are you old enough to have seen Kaline play? Are you old enough to have heard him in the announcer’s booth? Who’s the most legendary player still alive today?
