$1M lawsuit filed against Astros by season-ticket holder over sign-stealing controversy

While the fallout from most scandals usually diminishes over time, the problems resulting from the Astros’ sign-stealing controversy continue to pile up a month after the deception was revealed.

The latest action against the Houston ball club has come in the form of a class-action lawsuit, filed by a Texas man on behalf of season ticket holders. In the suit, litigant Adam Wallach clams the team owes fans for “deceptively overcharging them for season tickets while defendants and their employees and representatives knowingly and surreptitiously engaged in a sign-stealing scheme in violation of Major League Baseball Rules and Regulations.”

Wallach is suing for $1 million to recover damages resulting from “inappropriate increases” in ticket prices and “diminished value of their personal seat licenses,” according to the suit. He’s also asking the court to prohibit the Astros from raising the price of season tickets for at least two years. Astros management has not commented on the lawsuit.

Do you think this suit will be successful? Is it wrong that the Astros haven’t been stripped of their World Series title?
