Insider predicts the Lions will trade down in the 2020 NFL Draft

The Detroit Lions are going into April with the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of this year’s draft. Some people believe they should stay put and take a quarterback because of Matthew Stafford’s recent injury problems.

One team insider predicts that the Lions are going to trade down a couple of spots. ESPN’s Michael Rothstein believes they are going to swap picks with the Miami Dolphins who have the No. 5 overall pick to select cornerback Jeff Okudah from Ohio State.

Here’s his analysis of the situation:

“In trading with the Dolphins, who have the No. 5 pick, the Lions can potentially pick up another first-round selection, which might be able to land them DT Javon Kinlaw or DE Josh Uche — depending which pick it is. That would give Detroit two potential pieces to build its future defense around who would fill massive needs. It’s the smart, shrewd play — if GM Bob Quinn can pull it off.”

Many people have connected Okudah and the Detroit Lions. Matt Patricia’s defensive unit was subpar to say the least. They need help at all three levels.
