Is Michigan State a title contender?

The Michigan State Spartans seem to be in quite the rhythm right now. They’ve moved up to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 poll and have started Big Ten conference play with a 5-0 record.

They’re led by both point guard Cassius Winston and forward Xavier Tillman. They combined for 46 points in their 74-58 home win over Minnesota last night.

They’re proving to be one of the best in the conference once again this year. However, do they have the tools necessary for a national title run?

That’s a tough question. Michigan State has a lot of youth behind Winston and Tillman that is gaining tremendous experience in the absence of Kyle Ahrens and Josh Langford.

The big question would be whether or not some of these young guns can step up when Winston and Tillman are struggling.

One thing we do know about the Spartans is that they have the best head coaches in the country with Tom Izzo.
