The verdict is in on Zion Williamson’s knee injury.
Doctors have diagnosed the Pelicans rookie with a torn right lateral meniscus, which will require arthroscopic surgery, the team announced Monday. Doctors say he’ll need six to eight weeks to recover from the operation.
A severe injury has been ruled out for Zion Williamson’s right knee, but he is expected to miss period of weeks to start regular season, league sources tell ESPN. Pels are clearly treating injury with an abundance of caution but there’s no shortage of confidence on full recovery.

After suffering the injury during Sunday’s preseason game against San Antonio, team officials said they expected Williamson to miss a “period of weeks.” The news that his injury is more serious than originally thought means New Orleans will have to start the season without the NBA’s number one draft pick.
Does this prove that playing preseason games only puts players at risk for preseason injuries? Were the Pelicans a little too dependent on their new star player before he even played in a regular game?
