September baseball is pretty much meaningless when you’re not in contention for a playoff spot. That holds true for the Detroit Tigers who are 46-110 now this season.
Tonight is their most most important game of the season. With a loss to the Minnesota Twins, they can clinch the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft. They also claim the top pick next June if the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the loss, the Tigers stand five games ahead of the Orioles in the race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. Their magic number is one.

Who’s ready to break out the champagne? It’s a sad, yet promising day to be a Tigers fan.
