Detroit Lions add another QB to roster before final preseason game

The Detroit Lions have had a glaring issue during the 2019 preseason. That would be backup quarterback.

Most teams know that there’s a completely different expectation once their starting quarterback goes down with a major injury. However, you still need someone competent behind center in that situation.

It’s uncertain whether the Lions currently have that guy on their roster.

Tom Savage suffered a concussion in week one of the preseason. David Fales hasn’t been consistent enough to prove he’s a reliable backup. Josh Johnson was signed off the street recently and has looked like a guy that’s play on over a dozen teams since coming into the league.

The Lions made one final attempt to see if they can solve their backup quarterback issue.

They signed Luis Perez. He played in the AAF before the league was cancelled. Perez threw for 1,460 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions for the Birmingham Iron.

Perez was the Harlon Hill winner after being named the best player in D-II college football in 2017 during his time at Texas A&M Commerce.
