Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman continues to make small moves within the organization through free agency.
They just signed veteran forward Valtteri Filppula to a two-year deal worth $6 million. The new general manager in Detroit and Filppula know each other very well.
Yzerman signed him to a five-year deal when he was the general manager for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Previous to that, Filppula spent nine seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.
He’s a utility player that is now on the back-end of his career. It’s very much a safe move by Yzerman as the Red Wings had little money to play with in free agency.
