Tennis world, meet Cori Gauff. The 15-year-old prodigy just stunned fans by defeating Venus Williams the first round of Wimbledon on Monday.
Gauff defeated Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champion, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. She’s the youngest person to win a Wimbledon match since 1991.
Last week, Gauff made history by becoming the youngest Wimbledon qualifier in the Open era. After her big win, Gauff told reports she was “still in shock” and that “Playing against the top players in the field is going to be a different feel.”
How far can Gauff go in the tournament? Could she end up defeating both Williams sisters? Will Gauff be the next big female tennis star?
