Big Ten officially names Vikings’ Kevin Warren next commissioner

Kevin Warren is the new commissioner of the Big Ten conference after spending the last 15 years with the Minnesota Vikings. He will be replacing former commissioner Jim Delany.

While working with the Vikings, he accomplished a lot in the role of COO. Here’s more on the subject from Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune.

Warren was promoted in 2015 from vice president of legal affairs and chief administrative officer to COO of the Vikings, who have gone from one of the league’s least financially successful franchises to stable ground.

He was instrumental in developing the $1.1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium, which opened in 2016 and hosted Super Bowl LII in February 2018. He also helped oversee the design, development and planning of the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center.

Warren is one of two African American men to be hired as a commissioner for an FBS conference in just a month’s time. There were not any before that.
