Tigers sign veteran pitcher Ivan Nova

Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila has been looking to add another veteran pitcher to his team’s rotation. Yesterday he did just that.

The Tigers signed 11-year veteran Ivan Nova to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.

Here’s what Avila told the Chris McCosky and the Detroit News following their recent roster move:

“Ivan fits that need while also providing strong leadership in the clubhouse,” Avila said in a statement. “Ivan has a proven track record of reliability, throwing at least 160 innings in each of the last four seasons, and often puts his club in a position to win when he’s on the mound.”

Nova spent this past season with the Chicago White Sox. He had a 11-12 record with a 4.76 ERA in 34 starts.
