Calvin Johnson involved in marijuana industry, research benefits to CTE

Marijuana was legalized this past year in the state of Michigan. A former Detroit Lions star is breaking into the cannabis industry in a unique way.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Calvin Johnson and his wife were approved for a dispensary in February. He’s pairing up with another former Lion to go even further with the possibilities of this new industry.

Johnson and Rob Sims created a brand called ‘Primitive’, which is partnering with Harvard University to research marijuana’s potential benefits to CTE, a brain injury that has effected former football players.

Why the cannabis industry? Cassandra Negley from Yahoo! Sports has more on the story:

“Johnson and Sims said they each got into the business because of being subscribed opioids for pain during their playing days.”
