NBA Owners Approve Coaches’ Challenge System

Coaches may now be able to challenge some in-game flags thanks to a new rule approved by the NBA Board of Governors, says Shams Charania from The Athletic.

A league memo released last month noted that personal fouls charged to teams, a called out-of-bounds violation, and a goaltending violation or a basket-interference violation can be reviewed, but not physical flags.

In order to bring about the challenge, the coach must call a timeout then “immediately signal for a challenge by twirling his/her index finger toward the referees,” the Associated Press reports.

The board will also allow the NBA replay center, in addition to game refs, to trigger instant replays, reveals ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski.

What do you think of the changes? How will they affect the game?
