Detroit Red Wings get defensive in NHL Draft

The NHL draft was this past weekend and the Detroit Red Wings had 11 picks in this year’s draft. Five of those selections happened to be defensemen.

With the sixth overall pick, they selected a right-handed shot from the blue line, Moritz Seider.

With their 35th pick, the Wings selected another defensemen, Antti Tuomisto.

Defense has been an area where the Red Wings have struggled over the past few seasons. Tuomisto and Seider will join a youth movement at this position that already exists in the organization.

Dennis Cholowski and Filip Hronek have received a lot of playing time in both Grand Rapids and Detroit as the Red Wings continue their rebuilding stage.
